We’re Getting Our Ducks in a Row & Hiring!
We’ve had a lot going on at A Quick Brown HQ lately. We’ve spent the past few years figuring out what things look like after Ayesha completed the initial goal of becoming the first-ever professional African-American woman in the Women’s World Tour! She did it! It’s done! What comes next?
A Quick Brown Fox (AQBF) once served as a method of documentation and funding for Ayesha’s journey. Now it has become a resource hub for so many others! With the development of The Black Foxes and Thee Abundance Project, AQBF continues the mission to add more numbers and color into cycling.
In 2020, we formed The Black Foxes, an international collective of 8 Black folks in cycling and the outdoors. The murder of George Floyd was a tipping point for many, and we wanted to cut through as much noise and confusion as possible by showing that Black folks are perfectly capable of creating our own narratives and being leaders in our own liberation. Beyond that, we wanted to show that Black people have existed and continue to exist in the cycling and outdoor space, and it’s important to make sure that we are being included in the move to diversify these spaces in a respectful and authentic way.
In 2021, we launched Thee Abundance Summit which lead to Thee Abundance Project. Thee Abundance Project was designed to create a pathway for women of color to go from beginner to professional road cyclists by eliminating many of the barriers along the way. We started our focus with beginner-friendly initiatives to encourage women to try bike racing for the first time. After two full seasons of programming, the community is growing rapidly, and the pathway is indeed being created.
In 2022, Ayesha signed her first full-on contract as a World Tour rider with Liv Racing Xstra. Unfortunately, early in the season, it was discovered that she’d need to undergo a major myomectomy meaning she was only able to race for about a month before ending her season early to deal with the operation and subsequent recovery. We are happy to report that she’s back and ready for action with another contract with the Liv Racing Xstra squad in 2023. This time with a clean bill of health and increased fitness to boot!
All of this growth and progress has been made possible with your support and the support of incredible sponsors and partners over the years. We’ve created something genuinely beautiful that will only get better with time. This year we established a leadership team to make sure things get done, and we’re excited to announce that our team of 3 will be growing. We are hiring an administrative specialist to help lighten the load so we can continue to improve the quality and consistency of our work. If you know anyone who’d be a good fit, pass along this job description!
We’ve also created centralized Instagram and facebook accounts to keep tabs on all these moving pieces. If you’re keen to keep up, give IG: @a_quickbrownfox and/ or FB: A Quick Brown Fox a follow.
We’ve got a busy week ahead with more TBF Film Screenings, rides on Zwift with the AQBF Zwift Club, and TBF joy rides in Pittsburgh and Minneapolis with Shequaya and Raequan! For details on all of our events and happenings, you can always visit the AQBF Calendar.
Thanks for being a part of this journey, we literally couldn’t do it without you!
