Product Review: Burley Travoy® Trailer

I’ve been competing in the #CarryShitOlympics for well over a decade at this point, so I consider myself well versed in transporting things by bike. I’ve carried furniture, rugs, bags, instruments, boxes, humans, etc. Y’all already know I think bikes are thee most magical of machines, and I am not against anything that makes them even more magical.

While I am being paid to tell you what I think of this trailer, I want you to know that I’ve been searching for things to complain about, and I’ve come up very short. Is that a negative approach to reviewing things? Sure…but I like to know if I’m going to be caught out in the streets amidst a product disaster just as much as I want to know about all the wonderful bells and whistles.

The Burley Travoy® is impressive. If I don’t win the #CarryShitOlympics with this thing, I deserve a podium spot at least. It’s super steady, not super wide, and didn’t even flinch when I was doing crit turns on a road bike. I went for it at full speed, and the trailer came right along with me. I didn’t even feel it back there!

I took it over bumps, and cracks, construction grates, and potholes. Every time it kept it moving. Naturally, I didn’t try to bang it up much more than I’d test a bike wheel, but for anything I was confident riding over, the trailer held up.

It’s also very narrow so it fits well in the bike lane and most small spaces. I never felt like a super wide load. Of course, that is contingent upon what you strap to it.

Little doodads I really enjoy:

  • The straps

  • The expandable reach for use with different bikes

  • The quick hitch that fit different shape seat posts

  • The flip-down stand that lets it stand up on its own (with stuff on it).

  • The reflectors

  • Easily removable wheels

  • How easy it is to fold and stuff into that cutie little tote bag.

The only cons I could come up with were that I wish I could strap things down top to bottom with the integrated strap system. I used a bungee to help secure an item that didn’t quite fit perfectly and it was just fine for me. It never swayed, slipped, or budged. It also doesn’t work for carrying people, but that’s not really a fair critique since it wasn’t designed for that purpose.

I think you get the point. I really enjoyed testing this trailer. I’m also strongly considering purchasing the add-on rain cover to make this an all weather situation. A trip to Ikea is definitely in my future.
